Announcements

Just a quick update on the status of this blog. Sadly I have had to abandon plans for my latest two full length sci fi novels. It was foolish of me to even think of starting such a big project when I’m working on three series.

Doctor Who: The Fire of the Daleks will finish this week, after which Doctor Who and The Circus Master will take a break for two weeks. Next week will see the final two parts of the current Professor Fang story.  I will also be posting a few more reviews and opinion pieces in the weeks ahead too. I don’t want to completely abandon those types of articles as they were what launched the blog in the first place.

Its been a hectic couple of weeks which has sadly caused me to fall behind with all three series. The break will allow me to catch up. I have also decided to move forward my adaptation of Scratchman. It will be the first story to feature my version of the Tenth Doctor.

Finally I would also like to announce two new series. Carlene the Jazz Vampire ( a prequel series about the character from The Circus Master) and Van Helsing. Both will be starting either at the end of this year, or early next year. (Only an idiot would try and produce 5 series at once, so they will obviously be beginning after The Circus Master and Professor Fang are finished.)

The Circus Master: An Eye for An Eye: Part 8: He Who Fights Monsters

The Golden Emperor Hylexan and his horde of tentacled monsters cornered the Circus Folk and the terrified Quilax. Denika fired an energy blast at the Emperor which it effortlessly deflected, but in doing so the energy was scattered into its minions knocking many of them back for a few seconds.

Denika then quickly created a magical force field in front of the Circus Folk and the Quilax which the Hylexans quickly tore down, but it bought her enough time to push the others back into the cell which she quickly closed over. When she opened the door the Circus Folk and the Quilax found themselves on the lower levels of the Emperors palace.

The Emperor screamed out in rage and struck several of its minions.

“Find them, the last of the Quilax must not escape! All of our work will have been for nothing!”

“Well done Denika”. The Circus Master said.

“I don’t understand?” Carlene asked.

“Its simple. The prison works through magic. Like everything else on this ship. It has no fixed point, its door can open wherever the Emperor wants it to, so I just briefly took it over and took us to the floor the Circus was on.”

“How do you know where that is?” Ashlei asked?

“I can sense it” Denika replied before being distracted by something at the edge of the corridor.

Denika could sense something else near to them, somethng twisted and broken by magic. The nearer she got to it, the more it was almost painful for her. Denika soon saw what it was when she peered into a room at the end of the corridor. Several Hylexan scientists were gathered around a massive dark energy ball, similar to the pit only much more dangerous.

“Unbelievable” Denika said. “The magics they’re playing with, they among the most destructive I’ve ever seen.”

“Why?” Ashlei asked? “They’ve already destroyed most of the Quilax? No other species in this galaxy even has magic? What could they possibly need that for?”

“I suspect the war isn’t going to end with just the Quilax.” The Circus Master said. “If you run out of enemies, just create more. I suspect a lot of their soldiers wouldn’t know what to do if there was no one for them to fight.”

“We need to move past them. That dark magic they’re playing with is so unpredictable, a fight could set it off.” Denika said.

The Circus Folk and the last of the Quilax slowly crept down the corridor. Along the way they saw other magical experiments to create new kinds of weapons in other rooms. “Amatuers” The Circus Master thought to himself. The Hylexans weapons took the form of magical energy rather than physical weapons. The energy would then be fused onto their bodies to make sure that each Hylexan soldier would never be left helpless. Each form of energy however naturally had to be perfected before it would be fused with the soldiers bodies.

Finally at the very end of the corridor, the Circus Folk could see a room containing the Circus, though by this stage it was a mere shell of its former self. So much of the magic in the vessel had been drained or damaged it looked battered and torn. It was surrounded by several Hylexan scientists who were clearly puzzled at the strange craft that looked so delicate, yet was so powerful.

“That doesn’t look like it will be able to take anyone anywhere.”  Askiro said.

“She’s been through worse.” The Circus Master said proudly. “Trust me once we fix her up a bit with some magic she’ll be back to her old self, you won’t want to leave!”

Denika placed a forcefield around the door behind them. It probably wouldn’t hold back any Hylexans for longer than a few seconds, but that might be all they need. The presence of her magic being used so near however instantly alerted the Hylexans around the Circus who reached their tentacles out to grab several of the Quilax. Such was their hatred for the Quilax that they would always go for them first, regardless.

Carlene was the first to attack the monsters. She jumped over one of the monsters and landed on it from the top. She then proceeded to beat the magical alien to the ground. The nearest Hylexan quickly turned its attention from the Quilax and tried to strike Carlene with its tentacle, but Carlene quickly grabbed it’s tentacle and swung the monster around, making it knock the other two monsters out of the air.

Florence, The Circus Master, The Strange Boy and Denika started to attack the other monsters before they could retaliate. The Circus Master impaled one of the monsters with his clawed hand, whilst Denika repeatedly blasted one of the monsters into a nearby wall. Florence meanwhile was grabbed by the Hylexans tentacles, but she bit into the one that wrapped itself around her throat and tore it off. Whilst the monster was in pain, the Siren jumped at the Hylexan and stuck both of her hands through the monster’s amorphous body. The Strange Boy meanwhile jumped on one of the Hylexans and rammed it into another pushing them against a wall. The Strange Boy then tore both monsters to pieces with his claws, shredding through one and then another in a matter of seconds.

Keptis and Ashlei just watched from the sides along with the Quilax. They both hated feeling so helpless. Normally Keptis could keep up with the others thanks to his magical weapons. He was a skilled fighter of course, but in this instance it would do no good against the Hylexans. Ashlei meanwhile had felt like a load throughout the entire mission despite the bravery she had shown against the Hylexans. If they got out of this she was going to make sure that Carlene and Denika taught her more skills and tricks.

After the last of the monsters were destroyed, the Circus Master and Denika headed towards the Circus.

“Its shielded by their magics.” The Circus Master said. “How long do you think before you can break it down?”

“A few minutes” Denika replied. Suddenly Carlene noticed the Hylexan that Denika had attacked had survived. The monster slowly crawled along the floor towards a large, green, glowing sphere on the nearby wall. Carlene jumped on the monster, but one of its tentalces whipped out and hit the sphere which sent an alarm running through throughout the base. The Hylexans had already been alerted by the emperor, but each room had an alarm that would let all of the Hylexans instantly know if intruders were there.

All of the Hylexan scientists from the nearby rooms who had been too busy with their own experiments to take heed of the Emperor’s warning before soon swamped the Quilax and the Circus Folk. They effortlessly tore down the forcefield and begun to attack the Quilax. Some of the creatures even wielded the crude weapons which they had been developing in their labs (which took the form of magical spheres.) One such weapon was so unstable however it started to explode and Denika was forced to put a magical force field around it. The force field barely contained the explosion and Denika was still thrown across the room.

Carlene, The Strange Boy, Florence and the Circus Master tried to fight off the Hylexans but there were too many of them. Carlene was hit by one of the monsters new weapons, a purple sphere which covered her in a purple forcefield. The Vampire tried to break free but the magic was too strong.

Ashlei and Askira tried to pull the magical shield off off Carlene, and after a few minutes the magic which had seemed almost unbreakable became brittle and crumbled to nothing.

“Damn” The Hylexan who had thrown the weapon at Carlene said. “It needs more work done on it.”

Another Hylexan had managed fire a yellow energy beam at the Strange Boy which briefly placed him under the Hylexans control. The Strange Boy quickly jumped Florence from behind and stuck his hand through her spine and into her stomach.

The Circus Master tried to grab the child Vampire and pull him off, but the Jiang Shi breed of Vampires were far stronger than the Circus Masters breed of Vandal; and with one smack the Strange Boy sent the Circus Master flying across the room, where several Hylexans started to swarm him.

The Strange Boy brought Florence to her knees before the effects of the magic began to wear off. Before he and Florence could do anything however they were hit by a green ray from another Hylexan that began to burn their flesh. Florence’s flesh burned much quicker than the Strange Boy, though neither of them were able to break free from the magics. Fortunately Denika was able to pull them free with her magic, though only after an immense struggle. Florence however was still badly burned and too weak to fight back.

Another one of the Hylexans fired at Denika, knocking her out of the air, whilst Keptis tried to drag Florence to safety, one of the Quilax wrapped its tentacles around his throat from behind. Fortunately however the Strange Boy quickly grabbed the Hylexan from behind and tore it in half. The Circus Master who had managed to fight the Hylexans that had swarmed him off, quickly joined The Strange Boy and the two would continue to defend the Martian and the Siren for the next few minutes against the monsters.

A few of the Quilax including Askira tried to join in the fight and help Carlene who was holding the monsters off from the main crowd, but they were no match for the Hylexans. Several more Quilax were impaled by the Hylexans tentacles. Denika meanwhile managed to finally open the Circus and used her magic to first pull Keptis, Florence and Ashlei into the tent and then all of the Quilax, whilst the Circus Master, Carlene and the Strange Boy either fought off or distracted the octopoid monsters.

As the two Vampires and the Vandal prepared to join the others in the tent, the roof began to cave in and several more Hylexans and the golden Emperor whose flesh had completely healed quickly descended. The Emperor knew it was risky to take the Circus Master on when he had the Firax, but his pride meant that he couldn’t leave it entirely to his minions. The Emperor hoped that his minions would deal with the Vandal, but if he didn’t make an appearance then he feared he would look like a coward to his people.

The Hylexan minions distracted the 3 time travellers long enough for the Emperor to quickly wrap its tentacles around them. This would normally have been enough to burn a normal life form into nothing, but the Vampires and the Vandals stronger bodies allowed them to survive for a while longer.

“Interesting?” The Emperor said. “Most life forms would be burnt to a crisp yet you still struggle. I respect your strength. Hand over the Quilax and I’ll spare you.”

The Circus Master laughed. “Lets stop pretending this is about them. It was once, but now? Relax the camera’s are off. Why not admit that you’re way beyond just simple revenge.”

The Emperor froze for a minute before answering.

“We have eliminated the monsters who once enslaved us, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be others around the universe. These weapons are to make sure that we will never be vulnerable again.”

“How will you get complete reassurance I wonder? Are you really going to let those weapons just go to waste?”

The Emperor squeezed his three prisoners harder. “We don’t have to explain anything to you freaks!” The monster shouted. “We will protect ourselves by any means necessary!” In desperation Carlene bit into the Emperors tentacles. It was unquestionably the most unpleasant thing she had ever tasted, but she bit as hard she could until she severed the tentacle that was holding her.

Carlene then swung on the severed tentacle into the Emperor, hitting it with enough force that she sent the monster flying backwards into its minions which freed the others. Denika soon came flying out of the tent and started to blast the Emperor holding him back while Carlene, The Strange Boy and The Circus Master fought the other Hylexans off. The Emperor however quickly sent Denika flying back across the room and started to attack the others who managed to dodge its tentacles, except for the Circus Master who tried to scratch the beast to infect it with the firax. Instead of fighting him, the Emperor sent several of its minions to dogpile on the Vandal.

Back in the tent meanwhile Keptis desperately searched through the remaining weapons chest. He couldn’t find a replica of his beloved flaming chainsaw but he found several flaming knives made by the same race. “Its better than nothing” he said whilst handing a few of the knives to Ashlei, before leaving the tent.

Outside whilst Carlene and The Strange Boy were preoccupied with the Hylexans, Ashlei threw several knives at the Hylexans swarming the Circus Master. She only managed to hit two of them, but it was enough for the Circus Master to get free.

Keptis meanwhile hurled his knives straight at the Emperor who didn’t even notice the Martian he was so preoccupied with the two Vampires. The flaming knives easily cut through the monsters flesh and as his tentacles flailed around he struck several of his own minions who were vaporised as a result.

The monster reached out and tried to grab Keptis, but Florence who had begun to recover and had followed him out of the Tent managed to push Keptis out of the way. Florence was struck by the tentacle instead which burned the Siren, but not enough to kill her.

Seizing his chance, the Circus Master jumped at the Emperor and stabbed both of his clawed hands into the monster, injecting the firax into its blood. The Emperor reached its tentacles out to pull the Circus Master off, but Carlene quickly grabbed one of the flaming knives Ashlei had dropped and jumped onto the Emperor, slicing the monsters flesh down the middle. Keptis then grabbed another flaming knife and threw it at the Emperor, whilst Denika blasted the monster.

Unable to cope with all of the attacks at once, the Emperor let out a final scream before the Firex ran its way through his body. Within a matter of seconds Emperors flesh turned completely gray and began to shatter. As it did the entire base began to shake and collapse.

The Circus Master weak from the firex collapsed into the ruins of the former Emperor.

The other Circus Folk tried to reach the Circus Master but the hordes of Hylexans  stopped them. Carlene, the Strange Boy, Keptis wielding his firey blade and even a weakened Florence tried to help the Circus Master but there were too many of the Octopus beasts in between. Several of the Hylexans started to beat and impale the Circus Master with their tentacles, whilst the others struggled to try and save him.

Just as all seemed lost the Quilax suddenly came running from the tent. Close to 200 of them, they all swarmed the Hylexans. Askira had been watching the Circus Folk fight the Hylexans from the Tent and felt she couldn’t leave them.

“We have to help them” Askira said. “What can we do?” one of the Quilax asked. “We have to do something. They’ve risked their lives for us. Besides if they don’t make it, neither will we.” Askira didn’t bother to argue it any longer and ran out. Several more Quilax followed her and within a few seconds, virtuall all of the survivors were following her. Many of them saw sense in her words, whilst others couldn’t leave their fellow Quilax at the mercy of the monsters. The Quilax predictably didn’t last long against the Hylexans, but they at least distracted them long enough for Carlene and Denika to get to the Circus Master. Carlene fought the Hylexans that had gathered around him off, whilst Denika used her magic to get the Circus Master back to the safety of the tent. Denika would then start to pull the Quilax back to the tent too, whilst the rest of the Circus Folk held off the Hylexans. More and more pieces of rubble started to fall from the ceiling as the space castle broke apart, crushing the Hylexans. One piece nearly hit Ashlei, but The Strange Boy managed to push her out of the way in time, much to Ashlei’s surprise.

The remaining Circus Folk managed to escape back to the Tent as even the Hylexans began to flee to escape their dying ship.

Back in the tent Denika would activate the ship to take off, mere seconds before the Emperors palace exploded. The blast was seen all over the Hylexans planet below. It was a day that would live in infamy for their race for thousands of years to come. The day that should have been their ultimate victory over the hated Quilax, but instead led to their greatest tragedy where the Hylexans who had won the war for them were slaughtered.

The Emperor would be remembered as the greatest hero of the Hylexan people for centuries to come, with all subsequent Emperors being forced to live in his shadow to some extent.

Just as the Circus Master had predicted however the war was not over for the Hylexans. Their collective paranoia would drive them to create more weapons and launch more attacks against other planets, starting with the neighbouring worlds in their galaxy.

The monsters had always resented the other life forms in their galaxy. As most of the other sentient species in the Hylexans galaxy were humanoid, the Hylexans felt that their neighbours looked down on and were repulsed by them. The Hylexans would develop a particular hatred for all humanoids that would lead them to move on to slaughter other humanoid life forms across the galaxy. Over time however they would come to fear and despise all other life forms in general.

The Hylexans developed a core belief that the only way they would never be at the mercy of another species again was if they came to dominate all other life forms they came across in the universe. In the later years of their history the monsters would go one step further and seek to exterminate all other life forms. Their fear of suffering under another race like they had done under the Quilax ultimately led the once peaceful Hylexan race into becoming one of the most evil and feared races throughout the history of the entire universe.

The Quilax meanwhile would have a very different destiny. The Tent managed to take them to a far away planet, hundreds and thousands of light years beyond the Hylexans reach.

The journey thankfully only took a few hours. The 200 surviving Quilax were rather cramped in the tent to say the least. Many of them including Askira had been badly injured by the Hylexans. Denika would be able to heal most of the injured with her magic, but sadly not all of the Quilax made it.

The Circus Master was knocked out during most of the journey. The strain of the Firex had taken its toll on him, and at one point Denika was worried he might not make it. Fortunately however the Circus Master’s Vandal healing powers allowed him to recover.

The planet the Tent took the suviving Quilax too was a lushious jungle planet. It was the only inhabited world in its solar system and other than the plant life, there were only a few primitive animal life forms.

It was the perfect place for their race to start over. Barely 200 of the Quilax were left, but it would be enough for their race to survive. The Circus Folk would stay with them for a few days. During that time they helped to bury those who had died on the journey and using Denika’s magic, build a few settlemants to house the survivors. Eventually after a few days however the Circus Folk knew they had to move on. They tried to slip away in secret, but Askira noticed them all leaving and followed the Circus Folk to the tent.

“You could have said goodbye?” Askira said to Carlene somewhat jokingly.

“I thought we were friends?” Askira and Carlene had spent a lot time together over the last few days, and whilst she understood that they had to leave, she was still a little upset.

“Sorry darling, but we have other worlds to visit.”

“Yes!” The Circus Master interrupted. “Its not easy being a hero you know. We’re constantly on the move, risking our lives to save others.” He continued to boast, to the embarrassed moans of his team mates.

“I understand but I just want to thank you one last time.” Askira replied, ignoring the Circus Masters boasts.

“Don’t thank us.” Carlene said. “We just did what anyone would have done darling.”

“Well a little thanks is okay” The Circus Master interrupted.

“Still” he continued in a more serious tone. “Its important now that you use this second chance for your race. The Hylexans may be monsters now, but they didn’t spring out of nowhere.”

“I know.” Askira said with regret. “I’m still not sure we deserve this second chance.”

“That’s entirely up to you darling”. Carlene said. “When we were on that city you told me about how ashamed you were of what your people had done? Well now you can prove it. Make sure that you break the cycle here and focus on your own people now.”

“That’s easier said than done. Some of us are already talking about revenge, about using magic as a weapon.”

“Well we never said that rebuilding a civilisation was ever going to be easy.” The Circus Master replied.

“All races are capable of great evil. You’ve seen where it leads not only with your own race, but with the Hylexans. Always make sure to remind your people of that.”

“I will, I promise.

“Maybe we’ll come back in a couple of hundred years, see how your descendants are doing.” The Circus Master said with a smile as he and the others went back into the tent. Carlene was the last to leave. She shook Askira’s hand one last time and wished her luck before joining her comrades. In a matter of seconds the battered old tent vanished back into the vortex before the amazed Askira.

It would now be up to Askira and other members of her kind who had recognised what had led to the downfall of their previous civilisation to stop the Quilax from falling back into their own ways.

As the Tent sped on through the vortex to a new time and place Denika and the Circus Master got to work on repairing the Tent which had been reduced to its bare bones by the firex.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do on the ship Denika. At least the tv wasn’t destroyed.” The Circus Master said cheerfully.

“Just make sure you get the toilet fixed first.” Keptis replied.

“Well Ashlei darling that was your first alien planet.” Carlene said. “I’m sorry for what that thing did to you,” she said more sensitively. “But you didn’t give in and did us all proud love.”

“I didn’t” Ashlei said. “I was pretty much useless throughout the whole time. I want you to train me more. You and Denika. I want to learn how to use magic as well.”

“I’ve been training you darling and you’ve come along great.”

“Its not enough. Please I don’t want to be a useless again Carlene.”

“I’ll do my best love. You weren’t a load on us though. Always remember that. We’re all glad you’re here. None more so than me.”

Doctor Who: The Fire of the Daleks: Part 6

(Sorry about the delay, its been a hectic week and there will be some updates soon.)

The Daleks slowly cornered Zoella and her child from both ends. Zoella pushed her little boy against the wall behind her, hoping that the Daleks might miss him.

“EXTERMINATE” the monsters shouted in unison, only for one of the creatures at the back of one end of the tunnel to suddenly explode. As the others turned around they too were beset by a barrage of death rays, fired by the rebels. Two of the Daleks at the back however managed to fire back and took down at least five of the rebels at the front, forcing the others to retreat. Fortunately however Zoella quickly fired her gun at the two Daleks blowing them both to pieces.

The few surviving rebels approached Zoella.

“Don’t worry” their leader, a young woman said as she dropped her gun.

“We’re not going to harm you.”

“Wish I culd say the same to you”. Zoella said as she shoved her gun into the young woman’s ribs, prompting the others to raise their weapons.

“You captured my son, threatened to kill him and helped bring these monsters down on us. You’re no better than the Daleks.” Zoella said in anger and disgust.

“We don’t have time for petty grudges now. Those monsters are all around.”

“A pity you didn’t realise that a few hours ago”. She said.

“We need to stick together. Our leader is in trouble. The Daleks have cornered him.”

“You mean the man who captured my son?” Zoella said.

“Its not just about him. He found a ship in the depths of the castle. One your king was going to use to leave us all to the Daleks. It can take us out of here, but they’ve cornered him and the others. We have to save the ship.”

Zoella was so overcome with rage she felt like shooting the rebels for asking for her help, but just as she had always done before the soldier repressed her emotions. She knew the rebels were right and that there was no way she could get her little boy out of this without their help.

“Okay I’ll help for his sake, but I warn you. If any of you lay a finger on my son you’ll be begging for the Daleks to find you first.”

The Doctor, Dana and Asica had managed to make their way to just outside the castle. They had mostly kept hidden, with the Doctor taking care of any Dalek troops that had found them.

Along the way the two time travellers and the former monarch could see that all of the nearby cities and towns had been completely levelled by the Daleks. The bodies of men, women and even children littered the lands all around them. The Doctor, Asica and Dana had also witnessed the Daleks, from the skies gun down hundreds of civillians fleeing from the cities.

There was nothing the Doctor, Asica and Dana could have done to help them. If the Doctor fired at one of the Daleks, then an entire fleet would have descended on them. As hard as it was they had to focus on themselves for now.

Outside of the castle were 4 Daleks circling the gates. The Doctor might have been able to take them down with his gun, but he didn’t know how many more were on the castle grounds.

“There’s more than one secret passage into the castle.” Asica said.”Theres a chance those monsters won’t have found one of them.”

Several more Daleks started to fly over head.

“ALL BUT ONE OF THE CITY’S HAVE BEEN CLEANSED! THERE ARE STILL REBELS SCATTERED IN THE NEARBY WASTELANDS! FIND THEM! FIND THEM!” One of the Daleks shouted as all but one of the monsters below began to fly over the wastelands.

The Doctor, Dana and Asica slowly crept behind some rocks, with Asica leading the way to the secret passage. The trio came upon was looked like a large boulder, standing in the middle of nowhere. It was soon revealed however to the Doctor and Dana, to be a hatch; as Asica adjusted some hidden controls causing it to open.

As the three stepped in one of the Daleks spotted them. “HUMANOIDS DETECTED ADVANCE, ADVANCE”

Asica quickly shut the hatch behind them, but the Dalek soon blew it open. The trio ran down the corridor whilst the sound of the Daleks above rang in their ears.

“ALERT, ALERT, HUMANOIDS ON THE LOWER LEVELS ALL DALEKS DESCEND.”

“Its okay they won’t find us, that was the only entrance” Asica said, only for several walls and the roof to blast open revealing more Daleks. The Doctor fired at the Daleks taking several of them down whilst Asica and Dana ran ahead. They soon took shelted behind some pieces of rubble as several Daleks covered the nearby areas.

“What are you waiting for? Shoot them.” Dana said.

“There’s not that much power left in the gun” the Doctor said.”The gun gets its supplies from the casing. I can either shot a couple of shots, or use one on full power that should get them all in one swoop, but I don’t know if now is the time to use it. ”

“What’s the big deal just shoot them and steal their guns?” Dana asked.

“I’d have to use the gun on a lower setting for that. At a full blast their casings would be completely destroyed along with the guns. I’m not sure if we have enough shots left on lower power. Even if we did the chances of me outshooting all those Daleks, well.”

“So use up the last shot” Asica said impatiently.

“We might need it.”

“We need it now.” Dana said firmly.

The Doctor still wasn’t sure. He tried to think of another way for them to slip past the Daleks but there didn’t seem to be.

“Okay” He said reluctantly. “If we are defencless just when we’re on the brink of safety, don’t blame me.” The Doctor jumped out and fired at full blast at the Daleks before any of them could react. The entire room filled with green, lethal radiation which caused the Daleks casings to break open and the creatures insides flesh to sizzel, and boil. It became so intense that the Doctor could feel the gun burning in his hand. Once it was over the Doctor investigated the casings to see if anything could be salvaged. They were completely destroyed, and the guns had even melted. One of the Dalek mutants was still alive however, albeit barely.

It raised its feeble tentacles to the Doctor in a feeble attempt to choke the life out of its most hated enemy. The Doctor didn’t even bother to move he just stared at the monster for a few seconds.

The Doctor hated the Daleks more than anything else, but there were times were even he couldn’t help but pity them. They were creatures who had no say in what they wanted to be. Their destiny’s were chosen for them, by one man, Davros. He turned them from creatures who could think for themselves and conditioned them to wage a senseless war against the rest of creation. In a way they were victims of his as much as anyone.

As the Doctor stared at this helpless creature in its last few moments of life, he thought about how this was probably the first ever time the creature was feeling the air on its withered, frail body. He also thought about how no one would care about its death, not even its own kind.

Asica, Dana and the Doctor quickly headed down a nearby corridor before more of the Daleks could emerge from the tunnels.

“Where are we going” the Doctor asked. Asica didn’t answer, but the Doctor pressed on again and Asica stopped.

“There’s a ship below here. One that we built if the Daleks ever breached the defences of our world. It was designed to get a few of us out of here.”

“A few?” Dana said with disgust.

“I didn’t want to have to use it believe me. It was a last resort to make sure that some of our species would escape.”

“What about Zoella?” Dana asked.

“I’m afraid we don’t have time for her.” Asica said he continued down the corridor.

“NO!” Dana said loudly, not caring about the Daleks. “We are not leaving anyone behind.”

“You stupid woman the palace is crawling with Daleks! The ship has weapons we can fight back if we get to it first.” Asica said.

“The Doctor intervened. As much as he hated himself for admitting it, Asica was right. There was nothing they could do for Zoella. Not yet anyway. The ships weapons could perhaps give them a more even playing field.”

“We’re not going to abandon her. I promise Dana, but he’s right. We don’t have any weapons. We need to find the ship.” The Doctor said firmly.

Reluctantly Dana agreed and the three quickly went down a near corridor leading to the cavern the escape ship was kept. Unfortunately however not only where there several Daleks guarding it, but just in front of the ship, the Doctor, Dana and Asica could see the Daleks torturing several of the rebels including their leader.

The monsters were electrocuting them with their sucker arms.

“WHAT IS THIS MACHINE! ARE THERE ANY MORE LIKE IT! ANSWER” The rebel leader was cowering and pleading with the monsters to stop.

“I never thought I’d pity those rebels.” Asica said with regret. “Its completely surrounded. We can’t get in.”

“I’ll have to distract them” The Doctor said.

“You won’t survive.” Dana said trying to stop the Doctor.

“If I don’t do this none of will, while I’m giving them the roundaround you.” Suddenly the Time Lord was interrupted by the sound of several gunshots. Zoella and the rebels had also made their way into the cave. The fact that the Daleks had become preoccupied by the Doctor, Dana and Asica had allowed Zoella and the rebels to evade the monsters.

The rebels shot at the cave’s roof causing some of the Daleks to be buried. The Daleks however managed to quickly dispose of most of the rebels, sending the survivors including Zoella hiding behind nearby rocks.

“Come we have to move now” Asica said as he pushed past the Doctor and Dana to get into the ship. The two time travellers followed, but one of the Daleks noticed and fired at them. It missed but the Doctor was still thrown off his feet.

Dana ran back to help The Doctor, but the Dalek cornered them.

“EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE!”

Zoella noticed her two former companions and jumped up to try and shoot the Dalek to gain its attention, but her weapon’s rays simply bounced off of the Dalek.

Asica meanwhile made his way into his ship. Not even noticing that his companions weren’t with him. Heading for the control room, as soon as he opened it however a Dalek emerged and cornered him against a wall.

The Circus Master: An Eye For An Eye: Part 7: What Goes Around

“We have them sir.” The Hylexan commander said with pride to the Emperor.

“You fool!” The Emperor beamed back.

“Only a few hundred survived.” The Emperor continued I wanted the death of the last of the Quilax to be a special occassion that would live in our race’s history forever. We won’t have enough for a day’s celebration now. The magics you used were far too dangerous for such a simple task as well. You could have contaminated that entire area of space for our vessels.

“I am sorry sir but surely the most important thing is that our enemies have finally been defeated.”

“Our enemies were beaten long ago. They surrndered to us early in the war the cowards. All that was left was to make their final humiliation memorable, and you failed me.” The Emperor began to raise his tentacles in a threatening fashion to his underling.

“Your heiness please we also captured a strange craft said to belong to the aliens that helped the Quilax escape. It could be of use to us.”

“It might and that’s why I’ll kill you in the quickest of ways.”

Before the underling could even protest the Emperor vaporised the lesser Hylexan into nothing but dust with its tentacles.

“Let this be a warning to you all.” It said to its terrified soldiers. “I do not tolerate any failure whatsoever. Now lets prepare our guests.”

The last of the Quilax had all been taken to the Emperors flying palace which existed just above the Hylexans home world and was larger than any of their three moons. The Hylexans planet had been stripped clean by the Quilax’s occupation, but magic had since transformed it into a paradise world. The Emperors palace shone alomst like a second sun and was bright gold just like he was.

The Quilax and the Circus Folk had all been dumped into tiny little cell that could barely contain them. They had been forced to wait for hours whilst the Hylexans prepared the dark magics to punish them.

Most of the Quilax had spent the entire time weeping at all they had lost, others couldn’t take the waiting anymore and screamed at the Hylexans through the tiny window in the cell to get it over with. If only they knew the horrors the Hylexans intended to inflict on them, then they wouldn’t have been so desperate to get it over with. At the end of the cell the Circus Folk sat together. They had stayed mostly quiet throughout the ardous wait. There was nothing that any of them could say given the circumstances.

Ashlei in particular had felt so guilty getting caught up in all the hype for the few hours they had seemed safe in the flying city. Carlene held Ashlei tight throughout the journey and promised her that no matter what she wouldn’t let those slimy monsters hurt her. She had no idea how she was going to keep that promise however.

Keptis meanwhile spoke the most, though it was nothing but ranting at how much he was going to make the Hylexans pay for everything they had done.

The Circus Master on the other hand had been uncharacteristically silent throughout the whole ordeal. Even in the direst of circumstances he had always managed to remain somewhat up beat but here he said nothing. At certain points he even looked like he was in pain.

“I always thought I’d be happy the day he finally shut up” Denika said. “Now however, I’m terrified.”

Suddenly the door opened and a white, almost blinding light flooded the tiny cell. After a few seconds some of the Quilax began to leave the cell, not being able to take the wait any longer. Outside they saw several hunder Hylexans hovering in the sky above them, with the gigantic Golden Emperor in the middle. On each side of the Emperor were 3 black and 3 red Hylexans. Aside from the Hylexans there were hundreds of other aliens, made up from the other intelligent species in the Hylexans galaxy all gathered round to watch the gruesome spectacle. All of these races had at one point been enslaved by the Quilax and they were all revelling in their suffering and downfall.

The cell like everything else in the palace worked through magic. The door to the cell could be deposited anywhere around the palace the Emperor wanted.

The Emperor spoke. “Welcome my kin from across the galaxy. Different as we all are, we have all been brought together for the same reason. To finally see justice dealt to the monsters who persecuted all of us for so long, monsters who slaughtered our people, destroyed our cities and treated us all as less than animals.”

The aliens all cheered at the Emperors speech and shouted for blood.

“You’re the monsters.” Keptis shouted back at the bloodthirsty crowd, but his cheers were drowned out.

“Which of the monsters shall we punish first?” The Emperor said as he hovered over the terrified crowd of Quilax. “How about one of the children? Think of how many of our children suffered in your experiments and camps?” The Emperor said as its tentacles reached out towards a young boy, no older than 5 who clutched his mother in fear.

Carlene, Ashlei, Keptis, Florence, Denika and even the Strange Boy however got in the way of the young boy. The Circus Master stood on his own meanwhile, clutching his sides in pain. The others didn’t have time to worry about what he was doing.

“Pathetic coward. You go after the most vulnerable, and you send others to do your fighting for you.” Ashlei spat back at the Emperor. The Emperor in response wrapped his tentacles around Ashlei who instantly started to scream. The pain that ran through her entire body burned its way into her very soul.

The other Circus Folk tried to fight back, but the Hylexan guards quickly enveloped them in their tentacles from above.

The Emperor held Ashlei up to the crowd of aliens who were more curious at this strange creature than anything else though they still laughed at her pain. The crowd was made up of the very worst from all of the planets in the Hylexans galaxy. Not all of the other life forms in the galaxy supported what the Hylexans were doing, but they we all either silenced or too scared to do anything about to help the Quilax. The end of the Quilax race was being broadcast through magic to every inhabited planet in the galaxy and whilst the majority were watching with sadistic glee, many millions still looked on in disgust.

The Emperor dangled Ashlei over a large pit just in front of the crowd. The pit was similar to the one Keptis had been thrown in on the scout ship. After he was finished with them, the Emperor had intended to throw the last survivors of the Quilax into the pit to suffer forever. As Ashlei was placed over the pit she started to see images of her two brothers, alive again and living in Carlene’s mansion with the Vampire as the mother they never had. It felt so real, though thankfully not quite to the same extent as Keptis’ delusion. Still seeing them alive and knowing they were just illusions broke Ashlei’s heart and she begged the Emperor to stop.

The Emperor pulled Ashlei away from the pit and held her in front of the Quilax.

“If you agree to let the boy take your place, then I’ll spare you and your friends the pit.” The Emperor said. “Our quarrel is not with you aliens, but you must abandon all loyalty to the Quilax.”

Carlene was so overcome with rage she managed to pull the tentacles of the Hylexan holding her straight out of their sockets.

“You disgusting freaks I’ll tear you to pieces” The Vampire shouted before several Hylexans managed to overpower her.

In spite of the pain she was in, Ashlei did not give in to the monsters sadistic taunts.

“Just because you’re a coward don’t assume everyone else is.” Ashlei spat back at the Emperor. The Emperor tightened its grip on Ashlei to the point where it started to draw blood.

The monsters torture of Ashlei was interrupted when the Circus Master, who the crowd and even the Circus Folk had forgotten about suddenly jumped through the air and grabbed onto one of the Emperor’s tentacles.

The Emperor’s entire body suddenly turned grey and the monster let out an agonising scream. It dropped Ashlei who fell only a few feet to the ground. The other Hylexans stood in shock for a few minutes before coming to their Emperors aid. The Circus Master however actually managed to swing the Emperor into the monsters by his tentacle. As soon as the Emperor hit them, the Hylexans all turned grey and shattered. The Circus Master then swung the Emperor round again before throwing him into the crowd of aliens, most of whom were crushed under its weight. The few surviving aliens tried to flee, but they were soon swarmed by the Quilax who beat them to death. Askiro however just watched from the side with disgust. “So much for breaking the cycle of hatred” she thought to herself.

The Emperor lay there helpless and screaming whilst the Circus Master burst into laughter.

“You like to think you’ve conquered the dark arts to become the new masters of the galaxy, but in the end you’re just another dumb race of animals messing with forces you can’t even begin to comprehend.” The Circus Master spat out at the Emperor before suddenly fainting. Ashlei ran over to the Circus Master to try and revive him, whilst Denika, Carlene, Florence and the Strange boy fought off the few surviving Hylexan guards. Carlene was so overcome with rage she tore two of the monsters apart.

After the monsters were killed Denika placed a forcefield around the room, though she wasn’t sure how long it would last.

Carlene and Askiro rushed to Ashlei’s aid. “Thank you.” Askiro said. “You’ve helped our people again.”

“Thanks darling, but lets not get ahead of ourselves like last time” Carlene said as she helped Ashlei to her feet.

The Circus Master soon jumped to his feet somewhat renergised. “Ah good I didn’t dream making a fool of the Emperor on his big day.” The Circus Master smirked.

“Care to tell us what’s going on?” Florence asked.

“Its simple. When the Hylexans unleashed the Firax on us, I was able to absorb some of the magic into my body. My kind the Vandals, we absorb souls from our victims to feed through our claws. I used the same principal to take just a fraction of the dark magics that had tore our flying city apart. My kind have a greater immunity to magic so it didn’t kill me, but it took me a while to try and control it. Once I had I just had to unleash it on his majesty here to turn his own magics against him.”

The Circus Master sank to his knees. “I can’t hold the Firax in me much longer. We need to find the tent and get you lot out of here.”

“Well what are we waiting for? Lets kill this monster” Denika said as she charged up her magics to fire at the Emperor.

The Emperor raised his tentacles as his skin began to turn back to gold.

“You fools if you kill me this entire place will collapse and you will all die. This place is tied to my will and mine alone. You can’t kill me, but I can kill you no problem.”

“If you’re going to kill us anyway then we have nothing to lose. The Circus Master said as he stood defiantly in front of the others, his claws unsheathed.

The Emperor paused for a few moments before suddenly using his tentacles to shatter the forcefield and the wall behind him. Hundreds more Hylexans, both blue and red flew into the room.

“I don’t have to kill you myself.”

Professor Fang: The Demon Within: Part 6: Friends and Enemies

“You’re awake. Finally, now we can have a long and civilised talk like gentlemen.” The Maliaks “God” said mockingly to the Professor.

“Demons more like” The Professor said as he stood up, his hands and feet both chained to a wall.

“I know what you are” The Professor continued. “I’ve met a few gods on my travels to know a phoney when I see one.”

“Ah yes in your time vessel. I’m still not sure about that, but well we’re out of options for now. Such a disappointment about the Maliaks.”

The Professor looked around and saw no one else was around. “Where are Lindsey and Kirsteen. If you’ve hurt either one of them I swear.”

“You’ll do what? I may not be a god, but I can still take care of a miserable child of Khastran no problem.”

“Where are they” The Professor said showing no concern at all for the “God’s” threats.

“They’re on their way back to your vessel. One of the females said she knows how to pilot it. They’re going to deposit a weapon against the Demons in the sky. One capable of harming all Demonic life. Sadly by the time my people developed it those monsters had swarmed our world. There’d have been no way of getting it into space, but with your vessel? We just might have a chance.”

“I see you weren’t willing to detonate it here because you’d go up with it. You were happy to let the Maliaks all die just to save your own skin.”

“Why should I sacrifice myself for them”. The God said in anger.

“They were nothing without me. Another primitive race who’d probably never have made it to the stars and would have been swept away by a natural disaster, exploited by a more advanced species, or vanished without a trace when their sun died. I gave them a purpose and a special place in the universe.”

“To be wiped out by Demons?”

“Its not my fault they weren’t up to task. I gave them all the knowledge and magic they needed. I appealed to their feeble superstitious brains. Told them that I was their god, I even assumed his form.” The Demon said as he morphed back into his true form and back. The Demons true form was much large and more forboding looking. It had white plated skin, large green eyes, 6 horns on its head and 4 sets of large sharp teeth.

“Its funny they seemed to be on the verge of giving up on that superstitious belief when I arrived.” The Demon said. “I told them that I had grown displeased with my other creations across the universe and that it was their job as the only children I was proud of to cleanse the universe of life. At first under my leadership they did manage to conquer a few primitive worlds and exterminate all of their inhabitants. Then they moved on to more advanced planets and even toppled a few empires. I was so proud. Then however several allied planets fought dirty. They forced all of their Demonic races to ally against my children. They were unprepared for such a force. They’d fought Demons on many worlds before, but on most planets Demons are tiny scattered forces. We were overwhelmed and pushed back to the Maliaks home planet. If they fail this time then I’ll leave them to their fate. There are trillions of other worlds out there.”

“I just don’t understand why? Why take an ordinary race and advance them through science and magic. You’re a Demon? Why not find a way to make them creatures like you?”

“I tried that many times before. Demons have greater power than any of the natural creatures. Your average Demon could tear apart 5 of my Maliaks in a fair fight. Unfortunately however Demons are all such cowardly backstabbing, worms. They can never work together. Every time I tried to lead them it was a disaster. They were constantly trying to usurp me, stab me in the back, abandoning each other in times of need. I could never hope to mobilise them as an effective force.”

“Angels meanwhile” he continued. “Even if they did ever follow me would never take another life unless it was defence. The Gods meanwhile were too powerful for me to lead, and even if I could they only care about themselves and their own interests. Natural creatures however? They’re the perfect foot soldiers. They can have the necessary aggression and desire to dominate like Demons. However they can also possess loyalty to one another, and to a strong leader like me. Sure physically most of them are weak, but even then that can be amended to with a little bit of genetic tampering here, a little bit of magic there, and a few culls of the weak and infirm of their race.”

“I think I’m going to be sick” The Professor said.

“You seem to be something of an anomaly” The God said to the Professor, ignoring his insults. “You’re a Demon, but you actually seem to care about those two women?”

“I wouldn’t expect you to understand.”

“That’s okay I don’t need too. All I need is to know that I can use that to force you to share your secrets of other worlds with me. If you don’t those two women will suffer. Assuming they make it back of course. If they don’t well I’ll butcher one Maliak child in front of you every day until you tell me. Understand.”

“I understand. I’m going to have to kill you, and I’m going to enjoy every second of it.” The Professor said back to the God who didn’t show any fear of the Vampire whatsoever.

“I used to collect the spines of people who promised that as trophies. I can’t remember why I stopped.” The Demon said.

The Professor still didn’t show any fear much to the gods annoyance. The god quickly called on his guards to take the Vampire away.

“You’ll learn to obey me Vampire.” The God said as the Professor was taken away.

“You’re a god make me and show your followers.” The Professor said as he was carried away.

Lindsey and Kirsteen were taken to the area they could teleport to the Professors vessel by an escort of 6 Maliak troops including the leader of the platoon that had ironically helped Kirsteen and the Professor break into the Demons mountain. Lindsey and the Professor could sense where it was due to their connection to the ship. Kirsteen could even feel its presence somewhat too, though her connection obviously wasn’t as strong.

Along the way they saw hundreds of mountains flying over the planet. The Maliaks were able to keep out of sight however, knowing it would be foolish to fight them. At various points Lindsey thought about running. She knew the Demons would still kill her regardless, but she felt it was worth it not to let the time vessel fall into the Maliak’s hands. Ultimately however she didn’t for Kirsteen’s sake. She and the Professor had brought her into this mess after all. They couldn’t have returned her to her own time, but they should never have brought her to this planet when she was inexperienced. Lindsey vowed that no matter what she was going to get Kirsteen out of this mess.

They soon reached the spot. “Remember not to try any tricks. We still have the old man and if you try anything we’ll send him back to you in pieces.” The leader of the Maliaks said.

“Born again little bloodthirsty fanatic aren’t you.” Lindsey said to the leader who pushed his gun to the side of Kirsteen’s head in response.

Lindsey hoped to stall the Maliaks long enough for the Demons to find them. They were out in the open now so there was a chance they could be spotted. Lindsey pretended the spell wasn’t working for a few minutes.

“What do you mean its not working.”

“I dont know maybe those Demons managed to find our ship, but the magic’s not taking us up.”

The Maliak’s leader was no fool and in response he shot Lindsey in the leg.

“You think you can trick me. Next time I’ll blow off each of your fingers.” The Maliak said.

“Okay, okay” Lindsey said knowing she was beat. In a flash they were all taken back up to the Professor’s vessel.

“This place is dire” The leader said derisively.

“Well we didn’t have time to redecorate after a Demon tried to kill us all. He was a real monster. He’d make short work of you and your punk ass god. ” Lindsey said as she fought through the pain in her leg.

“Can you take me to the medi bay please? If I bleed to death  I can’t help you” Lindsey said.

“First take us to the control room. You can show us just before you bleed to death. The god however will not be kept waiting any longer.”

“God I hope those Demons eat you.” Lindsey said as the Demons made her limp down the corridor to the control room.

There Lindsey checked the controls and saw that there were hundreds of Demon ships outside.

“They obviously noticed there was something wrong with this area of space and they’ve gathered around it. There is nothing we can do to right now. If we move they’ll catch us for sure.”

“You’re lying.”

“I’m not take a look at the scanner.”

“Its an illusion, you will take this ship to the furthest reaches of the solar system or I’ll.”

Suddenly Kirsteen broke down into tears.

“Stop making that noise its pathetic” The leader said to Kirsteen, whilst Lindsey limped over and tried to comfort Kirsteen.

“I can’t take this anymore, I just want to go home.” She whimpered. “My old life was miserable, but compared to this I just can’t.”

Before she finished Kirsteen kicked the Maliak nearest to her in the crotch and pulled its rifle off of it whilst it was in pain. She then shot two more Maliaks dead before pushing Lindsey behind a nearby control panel.

“I’m impressed” Lindsey said.

“Thanks. To be fair what I said is true, this is a fucking nightmare, but still.”

The 4 remaining Maliaks shot at the the control panel. Lindsey took the gun off of Kirsteen.

“No offence, but I’m a better shot” she said.

Lindsey shot at the ceiling above the 4 Maliaks. The blast distracted them for a few seconds allowing Lindsey to jump towards to the corpse of one of the Maliaks which she quickly hoisted up as a shield.

The Maliaks blasted chunks out of the former soldier, whilst Lindsey shot three more of the creatures before throwing what was left of the soldier she used as a shield into the leader. Whilst he struggled under the corpse, Lindsey held her gun at him, but did not fire.

The Maliak tried to reach for his gun, but Lindsey shot his hand off before shooting him in the chest. Lindsey then sank to her knees and began to faint. All of the adrenaline she had used to overcome the monsters began to wear off and the pain and the bloodloss was beginning to catch up with her. Kirsteen managed to catch Lindsey just as she fell.

“Lindsey, Lindsey come on we need to get you help.” Kirsteen said desperately.

Whilst she was distracted however, little did Kirsteen know the leader of the Maliaks who was stronger than the others had survived the shot to the chest. He was dying, but with his last ounce of strength he managed to push the corpse off of him and jump onto the main control panel. He quickly pushed several buttons which thrust the ship forward into the Demon vessel.

The entire vessel was rocked back and forth from the collision and Kirsteen and Lindsey were sent hurling to the other end of the room as was the Maliak and its bomb which it clutched onto.

Two of the Demon vessels were knocked out of orbit by the Professors vessel, but the hundreds of others began to surround the ship, ready to attack.

“She’s just a child”

“I don’t care. You sent me down. You betrayed me when I tried to help you.”

In the middle of the war zone the city had become, this former prisoner had managed to track down the woman who he hated more than anyone else on Heglozia, Fastera. The prisoner had been in love with Fastera for almost his entire life, and during the famine the two had entered into a relationship. Unfortunately however when Fastera’s daughter had stolen some food out of desperation, she framed the former prisoner for the theft.

She had no choice. Under Asica’s laws, Fastera’s daughter would have gone to prison and she couldn’t bare to lose her child. Every night she had felt guilt over her actions, but she didn’t regret them. Until now that is. Fastera’s daughter had thrown herself in front of her mother and pleaded with the former prisoner. Fastera did not fear death, but she didn’t want her daughter to see her die and begged her former lover to let her child go.

“I loved you”. The former prisoner said as he prepared to fire.

“I’m sorry” Fastera said, genuinely. “I didn’t want to hurt you. I just couldn’t lose her. Please don’t let her see this.”

Fastera’s daughter cried and pleaded. “Don’t kill my mum. It was my fault I’m sorry, please.”

The former prisoner still pointed his gun at Fastera, but after a few moments he lowered it.

“You’d better get out of here”. He said. “The streets aren’t safe.” He woud never really have done it. He had been a good man once. Sadly however like most of the people on this planet the desperation of the war had changed him, made him a mere shadow of his former self.  Neither Fastera or her daughter even acknowledged what the former prisoner said however. Instead they both stared up at the sky in absolute horror. As the prisoner turned around he saw the most terrifying sight he had ever seen. Hundreds of thousands of Daleks flying toward the city. No one else below had noticed. They were all too busy fighting and killing each other.

The prisoner and Fastera ran through the chaos shouting at everyone to flee but it was no use. In a matter of seconds the Daleks were over the city and started to open fire.

“EXTERMINATE” the monsters all started to shout in unison as their rays cut down men, women, even children and levelled entire buildings. There was nowhere to hide from the monsters. Each individual Daleks ray would cover an area of 40 feet and would melt absolutely everything it came into contact with. Some tried to fight back, including the prisoner, but they were the first to be cut down. In less than twenty minutes all that was left of the city were ruins and flames. Only a handful of civillians had managed to flee to the wilderness outside, Fastera and her daughter among them. They tried to hide under some nearby rocks, as more and more Daleks descended from the sky.

“ALL HEGLOZIANS MUST BE EXTERMINATED” A black Dalek that hovered in the centre of the swarm of Daleks screeched. “THERE WILL BE NO PRISONERS. THIS PLANET WILL BE CLEANSED!”

“It can’t be, it can’t” one of the civillians said from behind. “They’re here’ we’re doomed. Our entire world.” He then put a gun to his head. The others tried to stop him but he was too far gone.

“I’m ending it on my own terms than dying at the mercy of those monsters” He said before blowing his head off.

Unfortunately his gunshot alerted the Daleks and they swarmed the few survivors who all ran in different directions only to each be gunned down. Fastera and her daughter were the last two to be cornered by the Daleks.

The two embraced for their final moments. Fastera much like her former lover was not a bad person. She had just been forced to go to such extreme lengths to protect her daughter. Now it had all be for nothing. She just hoped in her final few seconds that the Daleks would kill her first and she wouldn’t have to watch her little girl die.

“EXTERMINATE!”

The Doctor, Dana and Asica stared at the ruins of the generator for a few seconds, none of them sure what their next move was.

“We need to get back to the palace.” The Doctor said.

“You what? Why?” Asica replied.

“Zoella, she sacrificed herself so we could get away. If there’s a chance she’s still alive we have to help her.”

“What about the people out there?” Asica asked.

The Doctor hesitated to respond. “We have to focus on helping who we can now.”

“What are you saying? That there is no hope for my people.”

“I don’t think there’s hope for any of us now. If the Daleks find the TARDIS before we do, we’re finished.”

“Then shouldn’t we reach the TARDIS first” Dana said.

“We’d never make it. Its across so much open field, we’d be cut down. At the very least we have to find some other form of transport first.”

Suddenly the trio heard several screams down the corridor followed by the all too familiar battle cry of the Daleks.

“EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE!”

“We have to get out of here now” the Doctor said as he darted down the corridor. As the trio ran they heard the sound of several of the rebels pleading, begging with the Daleks, that they just wanted the fighting to end only to be gunned down.

The trio soon came across the young rebel woman whose kneecap Asica had shot.

“Please help me” she pleaded with the three of them. “They’re killing everybody.”

“Now you want my help? You fools helped that monster destroy the generator.” Asica said bitterly.

“We can’t just leave her” Dana protested.

“She deserves it. Besides she’d only slow us down.” Asica said as he headed down the corridor. The Doctor hesitated for a moment. He knew Asica was right. They needed to get out of here fast, and she had helped to bring the monsters down on them. Still he would never forgive himself if he left her and so the Doctor lifted the young woman up over his shoulders.

The Doctor, Dana and Asica were soon forced to hide in a small room as three Daleks glided by. The rebel girl was whimpering from the pain in her leg, but Dana put her hand over the girls mouth and put her finger over her own lips. The slightest noise and it would be all over for them.

The Doctor couldn’t bare to look at the three Daleks they repulsed him so much. He wanted to tear their putrid, withered bodies from their casings and rip them apart with his bare hands. He wanted to kill every single last one of the monsters not just on this world, but across the galaxy. Still he had to keep his cool. The only option right now was to flee. There was no weaponry on this world that could harm them. If only the Doctor and Dana had arrived earlier in the war when the planets were still united he might have been able to sway the battle in the Heglozians favour. Now he could only hope to help a few of their people escape to another planet.

“They’re gone, we need to move now”. The Doctor said. When the 4 made it outside however they could see hundreds of Daleks above. Fortunately none of the metal monsters noticed them. The Daleks were all heading towards the main cities instead. In the distance the Doctor, Asica, Dana and the rebel girl could see flames and corpses strewn across the wastelands.

“We’re all dead. All of us, there’s nothing we can do” Asica said as he sank to his knees.

“Shh” The Doctor said quietly. “Don’t make a sound. I don’t have time to convince you. Either you come with us, or you get left to the mercy of the most evil creatures in the universe.” He said to Asica who instantly stood back up. It was the kings hatred of the Daleks that motivated him at this stage more than anything else. He wanted to at least take some of those monsters down with him before he went.

The three slowly and quietly walked across the wastelands with Dana looking up at the Daleks to warn the others if any of the metal monsters had noticed them. Unfortunately whilst they were busy looking up at the sky, they failed to notice one of the Daleks creeping up from over a nearby hill.

“STAY WHERE YOU ARE!” The monster shouted.

The Dalek scanned the Doctor and Dana who it felt looked somewhat different to the other inhabitants of this planet. . “YOU ARE NOT OF THIS WORLD! EXPLAIN! EXPLAIN!”

“Well what can I say my life story is one of adventure, discovery and I’m proud to say, one that involves lots and lots of humiliating defeats for the Daleks” the Doctor said in a mock cheeful tone.

Dana quickly reached into the earth and threw a slab of dirt at the Daleks eyestick, temporarily blinding the creature. In its panic it fired, but fortunately its ray missed them. The Doctor placed the young rebel girl on the floor and told her not to move. Dana and Asica meanwhile rushed the Dalek and grabbed it from either side, whilst the Doctor grabbed it from behind. All three struggled to even hold the monster in place its strength was so great. The Dalek quickly swivelled its mid section 360 degrees, knocking all three of them off. Its mid section then turned to face the Doctor, but Dana quickly jumped up and kicked the Dalek with all her might. She barely moved it an inch and nearly broke her foot on the metal. Still she distracted the Dalek long enough for the Doctor to jump up and wrestle with the monster again. Up above the Doctor could see one of the flying Daleks aiming its gun at them. “Watch out” The Time Lord shouted to Dana and Asica as the Dalek above fired. All 3 quickly jumped out of the way only for the Dalek aboves ray to hit the Dalek the Doctor and the others had been wrestling with instead.

After the Dalek below’s top section blew up, the Doctor quickly grabbed its gun and fired up at the other monsters in the sky. He moved the Dalek gun to full setting which doused the entire area up above with radiation killing 10 Daleks.

The young rebel woman meanwhile had managed to limp to safety behind a nearby rock. The Doctor tried to run towards her, but one of the surviving Daleks flew there first. The Doctor tried to shoot firs,t but the Dalek managed to blast the young woman on full power. The Doctor, Dana and Asica were barely able to scramble to safety as the entire area was overrun with radiation, and Asica was still caught in the very edges of the rays blast which singed his skin and hair.  It didn’t kill him, but the pain was so overwhelming he could barely stand up. Every single part of his body hurt.

“Just leave me, I can barely walk.” He said.

“No like I said, we don’t leave anyone behind.” The Doctor replied as he and Dana helped the former monarch up. The Doctor then quickly fired back at the Dalek and blew the monster up in the sky.

“If only she’d listened and not tried to crawl away we could have got to her in time. We need to stick together if we have any hope of getting through this.” The Doctor said as he looked at the young rebel woman’s corpse whose face was twisted into the most heinous expression of agony.

“What’s that?”

“I don’t know maybe the people gathering outside to celebrate their brave new heroes.” Zoella said with disdain. The rebels took no notice of her however.

“We haven’t heard anything back from the commander in a while.” One of the rebels said. The whole room began to shake and the three rebels soon heard the croaking sound of a Dalek coming from above.

“HUMANOID LIFE FORMS DETECTED! ADVANCE! ADVANCE!”

“They’re here!” Zoella said in panic. “You have to release me now. We all have to get out of here”, but again the rebels took no notice of her.

“Its okay. We can reason with them.” One of the rebels said to himself. “They want this war over as much as we do.”

“You idiots!” Zoella shouted, which finally prompted a response from one of the rebels who hit her in the face.

“Maybe when we give them one of the soldiers whose slaughtered their kind in cold blood they’ll be happy.”

Zoella just laughed as the Daleks drew closer. Up above there was the sound of fighting and rubble started to fall from the ceiling.

“I’m sure those poor misunderstood Daleks are just thanking you for toppling the evil king” Zoella said with disdain.

As the celing began to collapse, the lock holding Zoella’s chains broke too and she was able to escape. Whilst the rebels guarding here were distracted by the Daleks, Zoella wrapped her chain around one guards neck and snapped it in a matter of seconds. The other guard turned around aiming his gun, but Zoella quickly punched him in the face with her chains and didn’t stop hitting him on the floor until he was dead.

After the gruesome deed was done, Zoella looked up to see her son standing there in shock at what his mother had done.

“I didn’t ever want you to see this. I swore I’d do anything to keep you safe. Even if that meant missing you grow up, even if that meant becoming a monster. I don’t care if you hate me. Just as long as you are alive at the end of this.”

To her surprise however Zoella’s little boy hugged her.

“Mother I could never hate you. I’ve missed you so much.”

“I know son. I promise that no matter what we’re going to get out of here.”

Zoella walked slowly ahead of the young boy. She had to hold her chains up by one arm. The weight on her broken arm was unbearable, but she didn’t even flinch once such was her determination.

As Zoella looked aroud the corner she saw one Dalek gliding towards her.

“HALT STAY WHERE YOU ARE!” It screamed. Zoella surprisingly however turned to face it with her non broken arm up.

“Well I’m here. I take it you don’t come in peace?” She said sarcastically. The Dalek raised its gun to her, but Zoella threw her chain around the Daleks gun stick and pulled. With all her strength she wrenched the Dalek gun stick out of its socket and grabbed it, shooting the monster dead.

“I can’t tell you how satisfying that was.” She said to her son. From behind the Dalek Zoella however could see more of the metal monsters emerging down the dark corridors. As she and her son tried to run back the way however, more Daleks came down that direction too. They were trapped with seemingly no hope of escape.

The Circus Master: An Eye For An Eye: Part 6: The Hylexans Revenge

“I told you that the planet was to be spared until we had enough Quilax for the main event”. The Emperor of the Hylexans screamed at his second in command.

The Emperor of the Hylexans was bright gold. He was also somewhat larger and certainly more powerful than any of his subordinates. One of touch of his tentacles could vaporise almost any life form into nothing but dust.

The Emperor reached his tentacles out to surround his second in command.

“Emperor please. We only destroyed the planet as we know that a city of those monsters had managed to flee into space using magic .”

“And where is this city now?”

“We eh, we don’t know sir, but their magics are primitive. We shall find them.”

“You have 30 minutes or else.” The Emperor said as it moved its tentacles to within a fraction of an inch towards its lieutenants trembling body before leaving.

“We need to find them fast” The second in command said in panic to its subordinates.

“Our scanners can’t pick up any traces of magic. For all intents and purposes they have vanished from this solar system sir.”

“They can’t have!” The lieutenant shouted as he tried to desperately think of an idea.

“It seems we have no choice”. He said with regret. “We shall have to unleash the firax.”

There was a silence for a few moments.”I understand you are scared of failing the emperor but.”

“I will not miss out on seeing the end of the wretched Quilax do you understand. The Firax are our most powerful magics. They corrupt and devour any other magic in the nearby area. If we unleash it in the solar system near where the traces of magic they Quilax have left behind are, then we’ll destroy their city.

“You could destroy all of them. You could destroy our entire fleet.”

“Either I do nothing and miss out on what I’ve waited for my whole life, or I take the chance and go down in history as the Hylexan who destroyed the last of the Quilax. This is not open for discussion. You will obey.” He shouted at his minions.

The city had almost reached the end of the solar system. Denika had been forced to slow it down as the faster it went the more unstable the city’s structure became.

The Quilax had been singing the praises of the Circus Folk throughout most of the journey. They had even started to carry Carlene and Ashlei around the city. Carlene felt a bit awkward about the whole thing, but didn’t want to be rude to the people by shooing them away.

The Circus Master and Ashlei both revelled in their praise meanwhile. For Ashlei who had spent her entire life on the streets feeling worthless, it was an almost unbelievable feeling for people to view her as a hero.  She felt like crying. The Circus Master always loved attention and here was no different. He even started to boast about his previous victories and adventures which made Denika roll her eyes. “Honestly, we’re far from safe now, what’s he playing at!” Denika thought to herself. “He really can be the most insufferable braggard.”

Carlene managed to break away from the crowd who were all gathered around the Circus Master and lit up a cigarette. She hadn’t had one since they landed on the Quilax’s former home planet and she really needed it after the day she’d had.

“What’s that?” One of the Quilax asked. It was the young female Quilax that she, Ashlei, the Circus Master and Denika had encountered when the city’s floor had engulfed them. Her real name was Askiro.

“Oh just a little thing from my world love. Its not good for you, but since I’m dead anyway it doesn’t matter.”

Askiro wasn’t sure what she meant by that, but felt it was probably best not to ask.

“Thank you for all you’ve done for us” Askiro said.”Though I think your friend over there is being a little bit premature.”

“Well I don’t know him that well darling”. Carlene said. “From what I can see he can be a litte bit over enthusiastic about things to say the least.” She continued. “He really does mean well though.”

“Well I’m not sure he, and the rest of you aren’t wasting your time.”

“Don’t say that love, we managed to get away from those monsters and we’ll do it again if they come after us.”

“Its not that its just.”

“What?”

“Our people, the Quilax. I’m not sure we deserve a second chance. If you’d arrived just a couple of decades earlier we would have been the monsters you’d have to fight. The only reason we’re not is because we ended up creating bigger monsters.”

“You know what your people did was wrong. I’m sure others feel the same way.”

“It shouldn’t have taken a genocide to show us though. I can’t help but feel if we do get somewhere safe, build ourselves up and mastered magics, then we’d go back to being the monsters. Maybe it would be better if you just let the Hylexans take their revenge and end the cycle here.”

“It won’t end with that. You can end it by surviving and not having to follow in your predecessors footsteps. I come from a race of monsters too. You’re lucky enough not to know them, but most of my people are worse than the Hylexans. I’ve found a way not to let what I am define who I am. Your people need to do the same.”

Ashlei called on Carlene. She wasn’t able to entertain the crowd with her adventures, as she had so few of them. (She also wasn’t eager to discuss her previous adventure with the Vampires either.) Ashlei hoped Carlene could entertain the crowd with some of her exploits. “Alright love I’m coming.” Carlene said. “Maybe I can sing, though I don’t know how you lot feel about singing? Is that a thing in your race?”

“What’s singing?” One of the crowd asked to Carlene’s frustration.

The Strange Boy meanwhile as always just stood at the side not saying or doing anything while all this was going on. Keptis sat at the very edge of the city, staring out into the endless black void of space where the Quilax’s home planet had once been. None of the Quilax themselves could bare to look back that way, which was another reason they were all so focused on the Circus Folk.

Florence felt she had to speak to the Martian. She knew that she (along with Carlene) were probably the last people Keptis wanted to speak with now, but she couldn’t leave him like this.

“Keptis, I’m, I’m sorry I wasn’t able to stop them from hurting you.”

“You can’t begin to imagine how they hurt me” He said to the Siren.

“Please you can talk to me, you can tell what did they did to you in the pit.”

The Martian looked down.

“Their magics made me see Mars as it once was. I saw my friends, my family….. My children, all alive again. I had no memory of what happened to my people, of the Circus, of the other worlds. I was actually happy.” The Martian began to tear up.

“Then right in the middle of playing with my children in the beautiful Martian fields, it all began to fade. Memories of the monsters that ravaged my world began to creep back in, the world around me began to waste. The fields dried up and were replaced with a red, barren desert. My family, right in front of me they, they began to rot away. Losing them again was even more painful than the first time. As soon as it was over and I remembered, they thrust me back into the dream world, only to rip it from me again. Each time it was over I remembered all of the previous times they had torn it from me. If you hadn’t saved me, I would have had to go through the pain of losing my family over and over again forever.”

“I’m so sorry Keptis.”

“I know you are. You’re a good woman Florence. I’m sorry I judged you for what you were. You saved me from the worst hell and I’ll never forget it.”

The Martian looked back at the Quilax celebrating the heroes who had “rescued” them.

“Now these poor people have been through the same thing I have. They’re in denial. They can’t believe the horror they’ve witnessed so they’re putting all their faith into us. Sadly I don’t think I’m going to be much use to them.”

“You can’t let those monsters win Keptis. They’re cowards. They had to resort to the lowest, dirtiest tactics to try and beat you. That shows that they’re terrified of you, and of us.”

The two’s conversation was interrupted by the sound of Denika screaming. All of a sudden Denika felt an intense pain surge right throughout her entire body. The Circus Master instantly rushed to her aid as did the others, but there was nothing any of them could do.

“Denika, Denika please.” The Circus Master said frantically. Denika couldn’t even speak she was in so much pain. All she could do was scream.

“We have to get her back to the tent.” The Circus Master said as he lifted her up. The entire city however soon began to shake.

“The Hylexans have found us.” One of the Quilax shouted in fear, but there were no ships around.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but don’t worry we’ll stop it, whatever it is.” The Circus Master said as he ran back to the Tent.

The inside of the tent was glowing bright red. The engine was still functioning but it was fluctuating to the point where it was threatening to explode.

“Dear god” The Circus Master said as he ran towards the fountain, dropping Denika in the process.

“What are you doing? She needs help.” Ashlei shouted as she and Carlene entered the tent.

“We’ll all be dead if I don’t act fast.” The Circus Master said as he examined the fountain.

The Circus Master tried to use a magical chant but as soon as he did, he fell to the floor in agony. As Ashlei tried to help him up several beams of fire began to shoot from the fountain of the tent.

“We have to get out of here” Ashlei said as she pulled the weakened Circus Master out. Carlene meanwhile lifted Denika over her shoulders to safety. Outside Keptis’ flaming saw began to vanish as the whole city shook violently.

The section around the city the Tent, Carlene, Keptis, Florence, Denika and Ashlei were on began to break away from the rest of the city.  Worse as the magic began to fade the Quilax, Ashlei and Denika began to choke as only the magic was keeping the air in. Carlene grabbed Ashlei and jumped to the other side. The Circus Master meanwhile jumped to his feet and did the same for Denika, whilst Florence carried Keptis to the other side.

Several of the Quilax tried to jump across too, but they all failed to reach the other side. Carlene, The Circus Master and Florence jumped back across to try and get more of the Quilax, but they only managed to grab a handful of them. Soon the other side broke into tiny bits and hundreds of Quilax drifted into space. The Circus Folk and the remaining Quilax, Askiro and the general among them, could only watch in horror. The Tent drifted off with the pieces of the city too and as it floated off the rest of the city began to break up and crumble.

The Quilax fled in all directions and hundreds more were crushed by the falling buildings, or drifted off as the gravity began to fade. Ashlei nearly floated away but Carlene managed to grab hold of her and then grabbed onto the road, digging her claws in. Unfortunately however this meant that she couldn’t help anyone else, and the Vampire was forced to watch as several more innocent men, women and children around her float away to their deaths. One of them was the general who pleaded with Carlene to help him in his final moments.

“Please we can’t come this far and end like this!” He screamed as he floated off to his death.”

Ashlei started to choke as all the air in the city began to fade. She even passed out.  Florence and Keptis meanwhile both almost drifted into space as the area they were in’s gravity completely faded, but at the last minute Florence managed to grab onto a nearby building and then grabbed onto Keptis. The Circus Master similarly held onto Denika and tried another enchantment. Once again pain ran through his body, but the Circus Master managed to fight through the pain and complete the enchantment that shielded Denika.

“What’s, what’s happening” Denika said.

“Those dirty Hylexans. They’ve performed some kind of spell that’s turning our magics against us. With the magic in your body, it would have killed you, but I managed to put a shield around you. I couldn’t apply it around the Tent. It was too big. Now its gone and this whole city’s breaking apart.”

“There’s nothing we can do.” Denika said as she looked around at the grim sight.

“If we work together we can maybe put a forcefield around part of the city.”

“It won’t hold.” She said.

“Its our only choice!” He said.

As more of the city began to break to bits, the building Florence held onto started to crumble. Just as all seemed lost a blue field appeared around the city. Barely two hundred Quilax were left however. Most of the city had crumbled and around the city were the floating corpses and wreckage.

“We did it” The Circus Master said.

“It won’t last for long. And we were only able to save about 40 feet if that.” Denika said as she looked around at the corpses and the crying, whimpering survivors.

“Only a couple of hundred of them survived.”

“You pathetic excuses for heroes” one of the Quilax shouted at the Circus Master.

“All that time you spent boasting and we were in danger.”

“I had no idea they had magics that powerful.”

“Maybe if you’d”

Askiro interrupted. “Enough! Without them we would have never gotten this far.” She screamed at the angry crowd who started to back down.

“Thank you” The Circus Master said meekly.

“I meant it. Even if it doesn’t matter now anyway.”

“We have to get to the Circus” Denika said. “If we could do that, then together we could put a forcefield around it and use it to power this rock out of here.”

“If we work together Denika we can make what’s left of this city move.” The Circus Master replied

“Doing so could break what’s left of this city apart.”

“I hate to say it, but it’s our only chance. This forcefield has a few minutes at best.” The Circus Master said grimly.

Together the Circus Master and Denika started chanting. The city started to move forward which caused more rubble to fall from the remaining building, and the blue forcefield to fade. The surviving Quilax all huddled together in fear, but what was left of the city managed to reach the Circus; pushing its way past the floating corpses of thousands of Quilax along the way.

Just as it reached the Circus however, a large yellow beam appeared around the Circus and then around the city.

To his horror the Circus Master could see dozens of Hylexan crafts come into view above.

“Of course the invisibility spell wore off. They have us now. We’re done for.”

Hearing the Circus Master of all people say that sent a shiver done the rest of the Circus Folk’s spines, but they knew he was right.

The Quilax all screamed in terror and begged the Circus Folk to help them, but there was nothing they could do.

“Yes we have them” The Hylexan commander said.

“There’s probably only a handful left on that tiny rock. The Emperor will not be pleased there’s so few. Those magics could have easily backfired on us too. I told you we should have waited to try and breach their magics in a more practical way.” One of the underlings said.

“You dare to question my orders. We have enough to make their deaths an event this galaxy will never forget. Our revenge will soon be complete!
